Forecast of utility grade photovoltaic in the United States

Demand from the utility market has driven a surge in the installation of solar photovoltaic projects in the southern United States. IHS Markit predicts that from 2020 to 2024, the southeastern and southwestern regions of the United States will account for 31% and 23% of the total demand for utility level projects, respectively.

Due to its strong solar energy resources and land availability, large utility grade photovoltaic projects in the southern United States have great market opportunities. During 2020-24, demand will continue to come from large procurement projects of public utilities and the public utilities Regulatory Policy Act (purpa) mechanism in South and North Carolina.

In 2020, Florida and Virginia will lead the growth of the utility market in the southeast of the United States. The installed capacity of both States will exceed 1 GW in 2020. The growth of the southwest market is dominated by Texas, and the installation volume is expected to be a record 3 gigawatts this year. IHS Markit predicts that utility scale projects in Texas will account for 96% of the installed capacity of large-scale photovoltaic power generation in 2020. California is expected to install more than 2 gigawatts of utility grade projects this year.
