وُلدت في عام 1965، في وقت لم يكن هناك أضواء كهربائية ولا شموع ولا طاقة شمسية. كنا نعتمد على الكيروسين المحدود جدًا في الإضاءة، وفي حالة عدم وجود الكيروسين، كنا نعتمد على لحاء الشجر الزيتي. أما اليوم، فلدينا موارد طاقة غنية، معتمدين على عدد كبير من تطوير الفحم، وتطوير حقول النفط، وتطوير الغاز، وتطوير الطاقة النووية والاستفادة منها، وبالطبع، توليد الطاقة المائية، وتوليد الطاقة من الرياح، كما جلبت لنا الكثير من الكهرباء. في حالة الموارد الطبيعية المحدودة مثل الرياح والمد والجزر، والموارد غير المتجددة المحدودة مثل الفحم والنفط، تلعب الطاقة الكهروضوئية، كطاقة متجددة ونظيفة مهمة، دورًا لا يمكن الاستغناء عنه. ومع التوسع المستمر في السوق العالمية والانخفاض المستمر في تكلفة الطاقة الكهربائية الكهروضوئية بالكيلوواط/ساعة في السوق العالمية، تتسارع صناعة الطاقة الكهروضوئية في آلاف المنازل، ولها آفاق لا حصر لها. وستحل الطاقة الشمسية تدريجياً محل توليد الطاقة التقليدية غير المتجددة.
